استقبل نيافة الأنبا بفنوتيوس مطران سمالوط بالمنيا، اليوم الثلاثاء 12 مايو ، وفدًا من السفارة الأمريكية بالقاهرة، وذلك بدير السيدة العذراء مريم بجبل الطير، في لقاء اتسم بالمحبة والتقدير المتبادل، وجرى خلاله بحث أهمية مسار العائلة المقدسة في مصر وما يمثله من قيمة روحية وتاريخية وسياحية عالمية.
وضم وفد السفارة الأمريكية كلًّا من السيد كريس توريس رئيس وحدة السياسة الداخلية بالسفارة الأمريكية، والسيدة إليسا المو الدبلوماسية بالسفارة، والأستاذ شهاب عبد المجيد وجيه أخصائي السياسات بالسفارة الأمريكية.
وخلال اللقاء، تحدث نيافة الأنبا بفنوتيوس عن سر اختيار السيد المسيح والعائلة المقدسة لأرض مصر، رغم أنها لم تكن الأقرب جغرافيًا آنذاك، موضحًا أن مجيئهم جاء بتدبير إلهي لتنال مصر وشعبها البركة، مستشهدًا بقول الكتاب المقدس: «مبارك شعبي مصر».
وأكد نيافته أن مصر نالت نعمة فريدة ومكانة استثنائية في التاريخ المسيحي باستقبالها السيد المسيح والعائلة المقدسة، مشيرًا إلى أن مسار العائلة المقدسة يمثل أحد أهم الكنوز الروحية والتراثية والسياحية التي تمتلكها الدولة المصرية.
وأعرب وفد السفارة الأمريكية عن إعجابهم بالدور التنموي والخدمي الذي تقوم به المطرانية تحت رعاية الأنبا بفنوتيوس، خاصة من خلال مستشفى الراعي الصالح، ومدارس العهد الجديد، وفندق العائلة المقدسة، إلى جانب المشروعات والخدمات المتعددة التابعة للمطرانية، والتي ساهمت في توفير آلاف فرص العمل للشباب، وخدمة المجتمع في المجالات الصحية والتعليمية والتنموية.
وفي ختام الزيارة، عبّر الوفد عن تقديرهم العميق لما لمسوه من جهود واضحة في دعم التنمية وخدمة الإنسان، مؤكدين إعجابهم بما تقدمه المطرانية من رسالة روحية ووطنية وإنسانية متميزة.
واختُتم اللقاء بأجواء من الود والتقدير، وسط تأكيد أهمية تعزيز قيم المحبة والسلام والتعاون الإنساني.
U.S. Embassy Delegation Visits Jabal Al-Tayr Monastery… Bishop Bafnoutios: Egypt Received a Unique Blessing Through the Holy Family’s Journey
His Grace Bishop Bafnoutios received today, Tuesday, May 12, , a delegation from the U.S. Embassy in Cairo at the Monastery of the Virgin Mary in Jabal Al-Tayr, during a warm and fruitful meeting marked by mutual appreciation and respect.
The delegation included Mr. Chris Torres, Head of the Domestic Policy Unit at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Ms. Elisa Mow, diplomat at the embassy, and Mr. Shehab Abdel Meguid Wagih, Policy Specialist at the U.S. Embassy.
During the meeting, an extensive discussion took place regarding the significance of the Holy Family Trail in Egypt and its immense spiritual, historical, and tourism value. Bishop Bafnoutios spoke about the divine mystery behind the Holy Family’s choice of Egypt, despite it not being the geographically nearest destination at that time.
His Grace explained that the coming of the Holy Family to Egypt was part of God’s divine plan to bless the land and its people, referring to the biblical verse: “Blessed be Egypt My people.” He emphasized that Egypt received a unique grace and a distinguished place in Christian history through the visit of Jesus Christ and the Holy Family to its land.
The U.S. Embassy delegation also expressed their admiration for the developmental and humanitarian role carried out by the Diocese under the leadership of Bishop Bafnoutios, especially through the Good Shepherd Hospital, New Covenant Schools, and the Holy Family Hotel, in addition to several other projects and services affiliated with the Diocese. These initiatives have contributed to creating thousands of job opportunities for young people and serving the community in the fields of healthcare, education, and development.
At the conclusion of the visit, the delegation expressed their deep appreciation for the tangible efforts they witnessed in supporting development and serving humanity, praising the Diocese’s distinguished spiritual, national, and humanitarian mission.
The meeting concluded in an atmosphere of warmth and appreciation, with an emphasis on the importance of promoting the values of love, peace, and human cooperation.
