كاتبة وسياسية وناشطة نسوية. في عام 1929، كانت القلماوي هي الطالبة الوحيدة التي تدرس الأدب في جامعة فاروق.
في عام 1956 أصبحت أول سيدة مصرية تحصل على درجة الدكتوراه في الأدب العربي، وأول سيدة تعين أستاذا للأدب، ثم رئيسة لقسم اللغة العربية بكلية الأداب بجامعة القاهرة.
A celebrated writer, politician and feminist activist in 1929 El Qalamawy was the only woman studying literature at the University of King Fouad. In 1956, she became the first Egyptian woman to earn a PhD in Arabic literature, and the first woman hired as a lecturer by the university. She was also the first female to chair the department of Arabic literature at Cairo University.
