Egypt's Hadari banned for forcing transfer

By-AP | 2 June 2010

LAUSANNE, Switzerland - Egypt goalkeeper Essam el-Hadari has been banned from all soccer for four months after walking out on his club midseason to join Swiss side FC Sion

The Court of Arbitration for Sport also banned Sion on Tuesday from transferring players for one year because it illegally signed el-Hadari from Egyptian club Al-Ahly in 2008.

The court dismissed appeals by both the player and Sion, ruling that FIFA was right to order the bans in June last year.

FIFA said they broke Article 17 of transfer rules, which allow certain players under contract to force a move at the end of a season.

The 37-year-old el-Hadari will miss two African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Egypt failed to qualify for the World Cup.
