بدأت رجاء الجداوي مشوارها الفني من فيلم دعاء الكروان، كجائزة عن فوزها في مسابقة ملكة جمال القطن عام 1959 .
شاهدها مصمم الأزياء اليوناني بيير كلوفاس في أحد عروض الأزياء التي اشتركت بها وهي لا تزال طالبة في الجامعة، واختارها لتصبح أول عارضة أزياء مصرية في وقت كان هذا العمل لا يزال حكرًا على الأجنبيات.
In 1959, El Gedawy was given her first role in the famous Egyptian movie The Call of the Nightingale, as an award for winning The Cotton Beauty Pageant. While still in collage, the Greek Egyptian designer Pierre Klofass saw her modeling in a fashion show, and hired her, to become the first Egyptian model in an industry dominated until then by Italians and Greeks.
